We Have A Path Forward to
Continue Physical Therapy and Movement Wellness Treatments
During this Time of Social Distancing.

Dear Clients, Colleagues and Friends,

This past week I conducted Live Video Physical Therapy sessions and I was very pleasantly surprised how great it worked.  Overall, the sessions were easy and pleasurable.  I learned that we can create an effective therapeutic connection in a new way and it was very empowering.

These visit are called "Telehealth Visits" but in actuality they should be called "Videohealth Visits" for our purposes.

Though I am doing them currently to protect clients, staff and myself from spreading COVID-19, I can see that this will be a very useful tool that will forever be a new "menu item" at Wholeness in Motion.

This will be a quick note just to get the word out.  I will follow up with another post to give more information.

Key Logisitcs:
1) If your insurance was paying for PT before, it is possible that due to the COVID-19 Disaster measures taken by Federal & State authorities that these visits will be covered by your insurance.

2) They are conducted with a HIPPA-compliant platform called "doxy.me".  This platform is designed to adhere to federally mandated patient privacy protection measures.   The videos are never stored, there is no video added to your medical record.  It's not even possible because videos are not savable.

3) If you do not have insurance benefits but wish to use movement as a means towards pain relief, improving functional ability, or staying centered and grounded during tumultuous times, please reach out to me.  We will find a way to make my services accessible to you.

In Good Health to you All
and
With Warmest Regards,

Israel

Physical Therapy in LIght of COVID-19

WEATHERING THE STORM

At Wholeness in Motion, we are mindfully open for business while carefully following CDC and OSHA guidelines.  Our top priority is the well being of our entire community.  We are monitoring public announcements closely with everyone else and we are adapting to the uncertainty that we all share.

We have re-structured our waiting room options to increase social distances and are taking available sanitation measures.
We are asking anyone who feels any signs of illness to reschedule once virus is ruled out.  (There will be no late cancellation fee for this.)

We appreciate limiting any unnecessary family member or friends to the clinic to reduce overall exposure.

Physical therapy treatments can be catered to individual comfort levels.  This includes verbally guided, safe-distance no-touch sessions to work on posture, pain relief, functional activity skill and home exercise programs.

We are also actively investigating telehealth -- (in-home video/phone rehabilitation services performed without a physical meeting) --  options which are currently not available for health insurance re-imbursement but this conceivably could change in light of our extraordinary circumstances.

Massage Therapy sessions can be choreographed/positioned to prevent un-necessary facial proximity.

We appreciate your participation in doing what you can to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Lastly, remember that the wellness benefits of a personalized movement routine can be very helpful to decrease tension, improve posture, breathing, fitness and overall well-being.  We are here to support you in any way we can to continue your rehabilitation, reduce pain, and increase your vital ability.

Keep in touch and trust that we can be well.

Finding Joy In Movement

Have you been feeling recently that there isn't enough time in the day to get everything done? Often times we can feel a sense of urgency to complete all of our daily tasks in a short amount of time. Here's a great video by Jaimen McMillan, the found of Spacial Dynamics®, who encourages people to find joy in these simple movements of life. Perhaps we can replace urgency and being rushed with deliberate action and flow. Check out the Spacial Dynamics® website for more information.

The Five Lines of the Body

The Five Lines of the Body are one of the core concepts we explore with clients at Wholeness In Motion. Here is an intriguing article by Cliff Smyth that explains the Five Lines well. Click on the link below to access the article.

Be One with the Cat Stretch

One of the basic series of somatic movements we teach people is the Cat Stretch series. It is a series of six movements that promote better range of motion and coordination. Each movement is progressive to the next as it  helps  the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems work together more efficiently. You first start out with movements of the spine and pelvis. Then the movements progress to incorporating the legs and arms in various gentle but dynamic positions. Once the basic foundation of the movements are learned, the whole series only takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. It's a great way to warm up your body as you begin your day or relax as you get ready for bed. The Cat Stretch Series was created by Thomas Hanna, who was a long time student of Moshe Feldenkrais. You can find the Cat Stretch along with other useful information in the book...
